5 Beautiful Places for Video and Photography in South and South West Wales

With the gorgeous weather we had on the weekend, Everlong Films were out and about in beautiful South Wales. It led us to thinking…With all these places of natural beauty on our doorstep, where are the best spots to get an awesome photo or piece of video footage?

So, here’s a little list of our favourites!

1. Tenby

A gorgeous seaside town, Tenby has it all. Beaches, shops and lovely pubs, it’s no surprise it was recently voted Wales’s number one destination for holidaymakers. Get the camera out and head to a spot overlooking Harbour beach, the golden sand and quaint pastel-shaded buildings lining the coastline are a delight.

2. Brecon Beacons

Where do we start? This area of Wales is truly majestic, and its beauty will shine through in photos and film. If you’re feeling energetic, you can climb to the top of Pen-y-Fan which is South Wales’s highest peak. If you’re looking for a something a bit more relaxed, drive through the mountain range- or better still, go with a guide! See below for a link to a great tour company who offer a whole range of tours and activities.

3. Castell Coch

Though its purpose was initially to be visually striking residence rather than a real-life functioning castle, no one can deny Castell Coch’s fable-esque charm. Peeping through the trees as you drive north from Cardiff on the A470, this 19th Century gothic revival castle looks beautiful on film and the site’s rich history makes this a must for photography in South and South West Wales.

4. St. Fagans

If you’re looking to capture the true history of Welsh life, look no further than the St. Fagans National History Museum. With more than 40 historic buildings within the grounds, from ironworkers cottages to a nonconformist chapel, the opportunities for beautiful shots and video footage are endless.

5. The Gower

The Gower peninsula is Wales at its very best…. Breath-taking, brilliant, beautiful. Rhossili Bay and Three Cliffs Bay are notable points for awesome shots and video, but virtually anywhere you go on this 19 mile outcrop of land is glorious. Heathland, limestone grassland, marshes and oak woodlands are just some of the terrains and changing landscapes you will encounter. Be sure to bring an extra memory card!

So there we have it, our favourite spots for video and photography in South and South West Wales.

Hope you enjoy!

7 Fabulous tips

  1. Plan within your budget (not the other way around!)

If money is a factor, start your planning sensibly. Rather than picturing a grandiose spectacle in your head, begin by writing down your budget and plan to book what you can afford. It’s not nice to think about, but the number one reason marriages fail is due to money worries. Don’t get off on the wrong foot by getting home from your honeymoon in a big pile of debt. At the end of day (literally), you will be married to the one you love, and that’s what it’s really all about.

  1. Let the experts lead the way…

Vendors will often have some great recommendations, so once you get the ball rolling on your wedding plans, be sure to ask their opinion. For example, photographers often know the best videographers and your venue will probably know a great band for the reception.

  1. Try your luck!

You’ve heard of the saying “Don’t ask, don’t get”? No words could be truer leading up to your wedding day. Always try and haggle a bit on prices, and if that doesn’t work, have a go at trying to get something more for your money… An extra couple of songs from the band? Or another bouquet thrown in for Auntie Doris from the florist maybe? It’s always worth a go!

  1. Do It Yourself…

Do you have a knack for crafting? Bit handy with a flower arrangement? Then do your invites, centrepieces, namecards… Whatever you can think of- yourself!  Using your (and your friends!) talents is a great way to cut down on the budget and add a personal touch to any wedding.

  1. Capture it all on camera

It seems expensive at the time, but booking a decent photographer and videographer for your wedding day is a no brainer. In the weeks following the wedding, the thought of an album of photographs or a DVD dropping though the letterbox is such a lovely comforting thing to look forward to.

  1. Scrapbook it!

With brilliant apps like Pinterest at our fingertips, there’s nothing stopping you looking for inspiration from the get-go. Make a scrapbook or a pinboard of all the beautiful things that make your heart skip a beat- it’ll make it a lot easier to decide on things if you know what you want.

And most importantly….

  1. Don’t Sweat it, Honey

It goes without saying that things are going to get a little bit stressy. I mean, this will be one of the most memorable days of your lives… But try not to let the stress take over the enjoyment of planning your wedding. You won’t remember that the table runners were the wrong shade of ivory or one of the groomsmen was missing a cufflink. What you will remember is everyone smiling, laughing and sharing your happiness on your special day.

So there you have some great wedding tips. We’ll be back with some more soon to make sure your day goes without a hitch.
