Production Notes:
The Roommate was filmed in mid 2006 on location in Gastonia, North Carolina. This film was written, directed, acted, and edited to have the look and feel of the old grindhouse films from the 1970's. "We wanted to make a horror film the way they used to make them," says writer/director Shane Gill. "Horror films in the 70's were gritty, terrifying, and yet managed to have a hint of humor in them. All of these elements are present in the Roommate."
After being shot on one the best cameras available at the time, the Panasonic DVX 100, the film was put through multiple filters during the post production process to give it that gritty 70's look.
"We really wanted to be experimental with this film," says producer/actor Darrell Parker. "All of the camera angles, the harsh lighting, and even the score of the film are indicative of what you would get from those old grindhouse pictures."
The acting really makes this film shine. For example, the two ladies in the film cried real tears during the entire filming of the climatic torture scenes. Of course, you would cry real tears too if you were about to spend your last minutes on earth with the hulking Melvin "The Butcher" and the grimy Wilburt W. Cole...
